My 25th working year at Impact

5th August 2016

By Les Underdown

Last Friday was the 25th anniversary of my career at Impact. At 8am on Monday 5 August 1991 I walked in to Impact for the very first time (just 15 days before Tracey, our digital junior web developer, was born!) Bryan Adams was no. 1 with THAT song (Everything I do) and the very next day Tim Berners-Lee announced a new thing called the World Wide Web.

It’s been an interesting quarter of a century – I’ve worked under three different ownership structures; been part of a company of anywhere between 7 and 32 people; worked in three different office buildings and about 20 different desk positions; worked alongside probably 100 different colleagues; and worked for at least as many clients.

Back then we used telephones and fax machines and artwork was created by sticking things to pieces of card. Computer graphics and email were a thing of the future – an incredible transformation and most certainly for the better.

Coincidentally I turned 50 a couple of months ago, so half of my life has been spent at Impact. All in what seems like the blink of an eye!
